Shih Tzu dogs - Shih Tzu health

The Shih Tzu is a fairly healthy breed of dog, although they can be more susceptible to breathing problems and heart problems.  The Shih Tzu has what is known as a brachycephalic head, much flatter than other breeds and those with more Pekinese in their history, some have flatter faces than others.   Because of the flat face, eye injuries are common – they don’t have the protection of a long nose coming into contact with a foreign object first.  Apart from unforeseen accidents, Shih Tzu’s along with Lhasa Apsos are fairly healthy breeds of dog and you shouldn’t find yourself visiting your visits too often, just the usual twice yearly visits.
